CARHENGE A record 86,598 visitors saw Carhenge in 1996, making it one of Nebraska's most popular attractions. Carhenge (bottom photo) is an automotive representation that mimics England's Stonehenge (top photo). Carhenge was built in 1987 near Alliance, Nebraska. At first, many local residents wanted Carhenge torn down. However, it was saved by a local group, and today there seems to be a more positive attitude toward the site. |

The Stonehenge Connection Engineer Jim Reinders thought of building Carhenge after a visit to Stonehenge. Stonehenge's major ring was probably built around 2000 B.C. Some people believe the site was used to predict solstice and equinox risings of the sun and moon. Carhenge and Stonehenge have certain things in common:
